Born to Fly

"Born to Fly" my new piece for Retro Cafe Art!
When I first started this piece it was only the Shadowbox Heart, but after deciding to add the bird on the inside I knew I wanted the heart to represent "a woman's heart" and so I added the Cameo Steampunk and using one of my favorite gifts for Christmas this year...a bird wind chime,a gift from my 13 year old son, this piece came to life.

I assembled and glued the box, then added card stock with a glue stick.

I then inked up the edges with Ranger Ink Pad

I made a mold of the bird head using Mold putty. Then filled the mold with casting resin.Once cured,I painted the bird to match my design.

I added Gesso to the woman's bust then covered it in text tissue paper.Next I added Liquid Pearls to the Gears.

I added an image using a stamp and watermark ink to some of the small wood pieces. Then covered them in clear embossing powder and melted with a glue gun.Next I added Deco Arts Gold Metallic Lustre to highlight the design.

I glued the bust to the back of the heart.Added wreaths, the bird,Dresden trim, additional card stock and smaller wood bits to the design.

Next I added text to one side using word cut outs, and added more liquid pearls.

Lastly,I created a fabric wing for the other side of the heart using fabric scraps, button and brass arrow.

But the miracle is in the unfolding of the wings. You may not know where you're going, but you know that so long as you spread your wings, the winds will carry you.”

Eucalyptus Dyeing with Friends

This past week an Artsy sister Kim came to visit us at Art More Place and she gave us a "class" on how Eco-dyeing works.

I say "class" because it was really more just a wonderful gathering of friends...

we chatted and rolled...

and learned and laughed...

we steamed and snacked...

and screamed like kids on Christmas morning when we opened up our dyed treasures.

What a wonderful time.Happy faces all around(l-r Deb,Barbara,Sherry,Kim,Sherri, and me behind the camera)
