My Mother's Hands

I am the youngest of five, and My Mother used to tell me that we(my brothers and sisters and I) where all a part of her hand, connected to each other, and to her, forever.
Nowadays,I look at my hands, and I see her hands,..always connected.Forever.

I love this Cat..............
Thanks for sharing it.
My hands are pretty beat up, I should have taken better care of them. But they have held and comforted lots of babies, been in the earth (maybe too much)spun lots of yarn, tanned hides, made windows, made pies.
I think i'll keep them.

My hands are beat up, too. I'm not sorry about that, because I love to work with my hands, and it certainly shows. :) I remember holding hands with my kids when they were little, and we would compare the size of their hands to mine. Sweet memories. xo Pam

i look at my wrist and all the bracelets i wear - many of them passed down from my late mother. with every jingle i remember her...

That is beautiful Cat! Love that visual, and what warmth from your mother. Well, my hand is telling me tonight to not use a knife to cut cardboard boxes when you are watching tv! Ouch. Bandaid please. Earlier, my hands were deep into a "junk box" at an antique show, loving the digging and finding greasy clock parts that I can use for so many things! Hugs, Riki

At the moment, my thumb is somewhat loudly exclaiming that I burnt it on the oven yesterday, didn't run it under cold water immediately, so it blistered, and which I then knocked on a rock and consequently burst, necessitating a trip to the local shop to get antiseptic wipes and plasters (I'm on holiday at the moment).

As for the rest of my hands, apparently they should tell me they are identical to my great-grandmother's delicate wee hands, but since I never met the woman (she having been long pushing up daisies before I came along) I couldn't honestly tell you. They do require me to get gloves for them in the kids department though, which is a tad embarassing when you're 5'7" ;o)

My hands have always looked old. Even as a child my hands had age and my mother would tell me that was a sign of a creative person. An individual who would jump into life without thinking of how it would wear on them. She said I should enjoy them because the rest of me would catch up and then they wouldn't see some old. Mom was right. My hands don't look so old anymore. Sea Witch

my hands have had a wild ride, cat! writing, holding, gardening, showing, making. but my favorite use is touching a shoulder or rubbing a back, a gesture of support and sometimes love.

i have known many people who do not have use of their hands (paralysis) and they manage to do most of what i do anyway.

i love this subject. xoxox

I was just noticing the other day how old my hands looked. Loved this post!
What a wonderful poem - I love Sarah Kay. Have you heard her poem, "If I Should Have A Daughter" (http://youtu.be/0snNB1yS3IE)?

Oh, this was wonderful. Maybe it is not how far you can see inside a man's soul thru his eyes...but maybe you can see into his soul by looking upon his palms, and counting the number of lines he has on his hands.....xoxo
